Childhood
Executive Producer
Filmed in and around Stockholm over three days, this project had the feeling of a half-remembered childhood memory - warm, intimate, and slightly mysterious around the edges.
Laerke Herthoni of ICONOCLAST approached the material with a remarkable sensitivity to the emotional logic of childhood: the way ordinary moments can feel enormous, the way small details become strangely cinematic when you’re young.
Most of the footage was captured on 35mm, giving the piece a textured, tactile quality, though Laerke would occasionally switch to a Bolex H16, creating moments that felt even looser and more impressionistic.
Editorial was handled by Edward Line during the early days of Cartel in LA.
And I’m deeply grateful to the talented writer Greg Bokor for bringing me into the project in the first place. We had previously worked together at BBDO New York on an ambitious Target holiday campaign. Courageous is probably the right word for Greg creatively. He always seemed willing to protect ideas that were quieter, stranger, or more emotionally vulnerable than conventional advertising usually allows.
